A Work in Progress...

'Bellworts'
20x20" acrylic

Come see my studio where I paint....Bellworts are native woodland flowers and I have some growing in my woodland garden. In this art work I'm trying to capture the blades of grass against which the bellworts are dangling. Now I will rest my eyes from the image and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow in order to decide which changes I need to make.

Art for Literacy is an unique partnership between the Library of Tyendinaga, the Friends of the Library and a large community of local artists to promote learning through literacy.

You are welcome to join us with your support by purchasing a Lilac Tea Raffle Ticket. All proceeds from this sale are given to Literacy programs and purchase of non-fiction books at the Library.

'Spring's Perfume' (5x7" acrylic) by Cynthia Guthrie and 'Sure Sign of Spring' (5x7" coloured pencil on pastel board) by Rita Woodburne will be donated to the Library to be raffled at the Lilac Tea Art Show.

I will keep you posted as to other donations of art to this worthwhile cause. In the mean time lets all think 'SPRING' and get all this snow melted. Besides I have a very cold robin eating sumac berries from my winter twig display and he looks like he could use some warmth.

I HEARD A ROBIN SING...

'Spring's Perfume'
5x7" acrylic
Copyright Cynthia Guthrie

I heard a robin sing this morning....and I felt a relief that winter will be gone soon. Painting lilacs to capture their delicacy reminds me of that heady fragrance that easily fills a room. The canvas was textured with Golden's Extra Gel Medium and the lilac blooms painted with titanium white cerulean blue and permanent rose. A cool sunny day reflects the newness of the spring season and the blooms promise summer days ahead.

Art at Tyendinaga Township Public Library

Today 2 local artists, Elveda Lockwood and Pat Werden brought their work to exhibit in the Library Gallery until April 17/08. Both paint in oils and a majority of their work represents landscapes from the township.

I'm hoping that as more artists become familiar with the Library Gallery that over time the Library will become known for it's support of local artists and culture within the community.

Volunteering as the Art Coordinator has been a wonderful experience and I am enjoying the opportunity to organize and plan events that promote 'Art for Literacy'.

Provincial Park Themed Art

I'm pleased to let you know that I have paintings on exhibit for the month of March at Barratt's Office Pro, an office and art supply store in Belleville. The paintings are displayed on the store's easels promoting not only my art but their product. Since this winter has been so long I felt spring flowers would be wonderful for the eyes....'April Sunshine' (orange/yellow tulips) and 'Woodland Beauty' - Canada Lily. Camping in Ontario parks isn't too far away and what better than an inspirational painting of 'Sunset Rocks' at Killbear Provincial Park. 'The Cascades' out near Thunder Bay is another beautiful location to enjoy Ontario's landscape.

The Belleville Art Association's themed exhibition titled "On the Move" gave me opportunity to show 'Arrowhead Provincial Park- Paddling'. Paddling down the East River in a canoe in the sunshine is such a peaceful feeling. Don't you feel as if you are in that canoe enjoying the water and sun?

I received my acceptance packaged for the Bon Echo Art Show to be hosted this summer at Bon Echo Provincial Park. I'm really looking forward to this great opportunity to be a part of this venue to showcase my provincial park themed art. I'm planning to include a painting of this park based on a visit to the park a couple of years ago.

Lilac Tea & Art Show 2008

'Spring Spires' water colour 11x14" (2007)

This painting was inspired by the beautiful lilac borders along the country roads where I live.

As the Art Coordinator for Tyendinaga Township Public Library I saw a wonderful opportunity to partner local artists with 'Art for Literacy'. The Friends of the Library primary function is to fund raise for literacy and do so by hosting an annual " Lilac Tea & Art Show". Last year's Lilac Tea & Art Show was amazingly successful showcasing 16 local artists from the Roslin area. This year we will be having an exceptional group of 10 artists exhibiting their fine art on Sunday, May 25/2008 1 - 4 pm.

For further information to to the Library's web site www.ttpl.ca

I'm looking forward to exhibiting my Canadian landscapes done in acrylics. I am drawn to water, skies and reflected scenery and try to capture the drama through colour, light and shadows. Enjoy!
